Khyle's Fearless Mock draft

No. Player School
1 Jake Long, OT Michigan
2 Chris Long, DE Virginia
3 Glenn Dorsey, DT LSU
4 Vernon Gholston, DE Ohio St.
5 Derrick Harvey, DE Florida
6 Darren McFadden, RB Arkansas
7 Keith Rivers, LB USC
8 Matt Ryan, QB Boston College
9 Sedrick Ellis, DT
USC
10 Leodis McKelvin, CB Troy
11 Devin Thomas, WR Michigan St.
12 Branden Albert, G/OT Virginia
13 Jeff Otah, OT
Pitt
14 Chris Williams, OT Vanderbilt

Bears Round 2: Brian Brohm (Henne to Dolphins, Flacco to Falcons)
Bears Round 3: Jeremy Zuttah (OG\OT, Rutgers), Kevin Smith (RB, Central Florida)

*Notes: Clady 'falls' a little bit here. I could be way off, but at the end of the day, Denver goes with Albert who is the #2 lineman. The Panthers take a mauler with huge upside. Williams to the Bears because Jerry Angelo thinks Williams has a higher floor than Clady.

Round 2: Brohm is the best of the 2nd tier of QBs. Henne and Flacco have their suitors, but Brohm will be the 2nd best QB in this class three years from now.

Round 3: Bears start Zuttah at OG, and transfer him to ORT after John Tait goes away. They also get Kevin Smith, a productive, tough if not flashy back.

Fearless projection: Cedric Benson does not play a down for the Bears in 08. He will either be cut or on the DL depending on how serious his injury is.

I like your direction for the draft. For me, I think the interesting part for the Bears will begin in the second round. Unless there is a serious run on fatmen up front, we'll pick from either Clady, Albert, Otah or Williams, and I'd be happy with any of them. We simply must fill that gaping hole up front as intrigued as I am with Mendenhall. To your point, you wonder what kind of positive impact cutting Benson would have on the team. I can't imagine that he has many, if any, fans in the locker room. He's a lazy, self-centered recluse (man was I wrong on him).

After we solidify the line, we need to turn our attention to some playmakers. My preference would be:

1. QB: Brohm, Flacco and Henne
Based on supply and demand. There isn't really anything after those three to get excited about, and while I think our needs are greater at RB and WR, we need to get someone in this year to start developing him. I have a feeling that Brohm will be the guy, and I'd be happy to get him. The guy was considered a potential top overall pick coming into last season. I was surprised to hear that the Bears haven't even been in touch with Henne, he seems like a good fit.

2. WR: M. Kelly, L. Sweed, M. Manningham
I see the wideouts sliding in this draft. Nobody is a sure thing. These guys would cause me to jump ahead of my desire for a Benson replacement.

3. RB: F. Jones, J. Stewart, R. Rice
I bet Jones goes to the Cowboys, and I'd be surprised to see Stewart fall but his foot injury could cause him to slide down far enough for us to trade up. Rice was extremely productive at Rutgers and would be a nice complement to Ced. Otherwise, I hold off.

Here's my mock

1. B. Albert -- OG/OT
2. B. Brohm -- QB
3a. M. Forte -- RB
3b. D. Avery -- WR
4. T. Zbikowski -- S (he seems to be a Bears kind of player)

Totally love the Forte pick. No need for QB - have Orton. Glad they didn't waste pick on poor QB class. Got some FA QBs that will serve the same purpose and possibly develop.
