The fault for the Bears loss in the SuperBowl? Peyton Manning and Tony Dungy. As much as people are talking about why the Bears lost, it was obvious that the Colts won. They were the better team.
The defensive game plan was to not take chances, hope Manning got impatient and let the Bears Offense keep them off the field. At the end of the day, they Bears gave up 22 points. 7 were on a broken coverage. I'd say that was an acceptable result for that match up. The problem however is that they couldn't get off the field, and the offense couldn't stay on the field.
The Bears offense however was awful. I know people are blaming this on Rex, but it's simply not his fault. The offensive line did not play well. Roberto Garza was a turnstile. But the biggest goat, to me, was Ron Turner. One example, he sends Thomas Jones in motion on 2nd and 1. Garza lets a Colt defender through, and Rex is turned into a bad Benny Hill sketch.
Turner did not have a good game. The running game only ok. Outside of the one big Jones run, they average just over 4 ypc. That's not enough against the Colts D. Turner didn't really put the ball into Grossman's hands until it was late in the game.
Sure, Grossman had the ball down by 5 with a chance to drive the field and score a TD to go ahead. But with zero consistency in the entire game, it was almost too late.
Now it's time to look ahead to next season. It's only going to get harder.
